ENCLOSURES
FURTHER ACTION

tasid (1) on '50.
I am directed by Mr. Secretary Creech Jones to inform you that the Governor of Hong Kong has come to the conclusion that certain officers recruited from other police forces to the Hong Kong Folice Department during 1945 and 1946 had reason to believe that their pension rights would not be entirely abrogated on resignation from the parent force, In order to dispel a sense of grievance therefore, he is proposing to introduce legislation whereby the Hong Kong Government will accept full pension liability in respect of polios service in the United Kingdom of former members of County and Borough Foroes who were recruited for service with the British Military Administration in Hong Kong. This concession will take the form of a supplementary pension calculated in the manner in which pensions are normally assessed in the home foross, and payable in due course to those officers who qualify for a pension from Hong Kong funds under the Colony's ordinary pension law. The concession will be dependent upon the receipt of the refund of pension contributions made to the officers when they resigned from their hose forces on appointment to the Colony,
